The days and weeks leading up to our official arrival in the mission were hectic to say the least. Eric formally retired from full-time employment with Rockwell Collins Avionics in Portland, Oregon. We packed up our belongings and moved 1,000 miles south to Utah during the last week of March.
We were only left with 5 weeks to settle in with Jon and Allie in Eagle Mountain, Utah. We also had to license/register/inspect both cars, get our driver's licenses, and change our address with Social Security and Medicare. We also set up a bank account in Utah so we could pay our monthly missionary payment to our ward and all our other bills electronically. We set up our new insurance plan required for all senior missionaries, and spent hours organizing and down sizing our things so they would fit into Jon and Allie's basement and our storage unit.
We helped make food for Lisa and John's wedding, attended a few of the grand's school activities, visited family in New York and Utah, and sold our car (the red Vibe).
